Objectives for: November 9-13, 16-20, 2009
Students will be able to:
* complete notebook assignments
* participate in fitness
related warm up- circuit or run/walk intervals
* participate in soccer/floor
hockey
* participate in fitness
testing
Expectations for Physical Education class:

Dress out and participate everyday
·
Complete notebook assignment everyday (5 sentences,
paragraph form….copy all definitions and nutrition and fitness notes)
·
We exercise and write in our notebook everyday
·
Open mind to try new activities, exercises and sports
Resources used –
SCAPHERD Fitness Test, exercise equipment, sport specific equipment
Instructional Strategies – lecture, teacher and student demonstration,
cooperative learning
Student Assessment –
visual assessment as well as a daily grade being given
SC P.E. standards are being met
Literacy: The students write
daily in their journals. We give the
students a topic and they are to date it, copy it word for word and sit in
their assigned floor-spot and complete their journals in five or more complete
sentences.
Numeracy: The students
will accurately keep score of games and weekly tournaments. Each Friday the students run or walk a timed
mile in which their goal is to improve on his or her time. Three times during the semester the students
are fitness tested. The scores or numbers
reflect each individual’s level of fitness as compared to their peers. Top scores (numbers) are posted in all
events.
Curriculum Content Standards in Physical Education *
A physically educated person
Standard 1: demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms,
Standard 2: applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills,
Standard 3: exhibits a physically active lifestyle,
Standard 4: achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness,
Standard 5: demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings,
Standard 6: demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings, and
Standard 7: understands that physical activity provides the opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
The
students will be participating in the FITNESSGRAM testing in three areas of
fitness.
1. Cardio respiratory (Cardiovascular)
Endurance: PACER Test.
2. Muscular Strength and Endurance: Curl-up Test.
3. Flexibility: Sit and Reach Test.
The
objective of the FITNESSGRAM is to increase parental awareness of children’s
fitness levels by developing an easy way for PE teachers to report the results
of physical fitness assessments.
Students
are compared not to each other, but to health fitness standards.
