*All notes taken in class are to be kept in the language arts section of the binder.  Students will be tested on this material and it should remain in their binders until they are told otherwise.

*One pocket folder will hold all bellwork.  Students are to bring this folder, along with their binders, to class daily.  Students will be allowed to discard bellwork at the end of each nine weeks.

*The other pocket folder will hold student writing.  It will be kept in the classroom.

*During the year, projects will require additional materials.  I will give ample notice when these materials are needed.  The directions for all major projects/reports will be put in writing so that students and parents will clearly understand all expectations.  It also helps for your child to have a dictionary and thesaurus at home to use for work outside of the classroom.

Reading Renaissance:

Each student is required to read six books in their reading zone each quarter.  Two of the six books should be non-fiction.  Once a book is finished, the student will take an Accelerated Reader test to show that they have read and understand the book.  A grade of at least 70% is considered passing.  Parents, please make sure that your child is reading at home nightly.  Reading Renaissance counts 10% of the language arts grade.

Homework:

Homework assignments will be written on board daily.  Students are to copy assignments into agenda when directed to do so.  Homework policy:  Day due – 100% of grade given, Late one day – 75% of grade given, Late two days – 50% of grade given, Third day – 0 – no credit given.
