Dear
Parent: I will be instructing your child in
Spanish I CP and I need your support.
I will be using the state adopted textbook ˇAVANCEMOS! Level 1. Each student will be given a textbook,
workbook, and DVD interactive student text. Videos, audiotapes, and repetition
exercises will be used throughout the term to reinforce listening comprehension
skills. Other handouts will also be used for written class work. HOMEWORK
will be assigned daily. It is very
important that students review their vocabulary every day. Remember that not all homework has to be
written. Spanish is a cumulative
course and it is easy to fall behind if the student does not keep up with new
vocabulary and grammar structures. This is a College Preparatory course and
is intended for students who are planning to attend a four-year college. The
class has to maintain a certain pace in order to complete the required
objectives for advancement to Spanish II CP. In order to help students keep their
work organized, I am requiring each student to keep all written work in a 3 ring binder. All class notes, handouts, homework and
class work assignments are to be kept in the binder that I will check during the grading period. A checklist
will be given listing all items required. All students are required and
expected to have their textbook, workbook, binder, paper and pen/pencil every
day and come to class prepared with
their assignments completed. There will be vocabulary and/or chapter tests on a weekly basis. A grade sheet will be provided for students
to record their grades. Please sign under parent signature for
weekly contact as to your child’s progress. If a student needs extra help or is
absent and needs to make-up an assignments or a test, I will be available Monday and Wednesday afternoons after
school and Tuesday and Thursday
mornings from 8:00 to 8:25. Please
remember that all make-up work must be completed
within 5 days after returning to school.
If you have any questions during the
term, please call me at school (664-8472).
I will return your call as soon as possible or you may e-mail at MVolk@fsd1.org. Lesson plans will be available on a weekly
basis on the West Florence Web site. Students should go to the bathroom during the 5 minutes between classes or during
lunch. If a student has a medical
condition that requires frequent use of the bathroom during the 90 minute
class period, please provide a note from the physician for approval by the
principal. My objective is that all students enjoy and learn the Spanish
language and successfully complete this course. Please
sign the bottom of this page for verification that you have read the
class expectations and rules and return it to me. Thank
you for your cooperation. Maria R. Volk
