English I CP and English II CP

L. Diggs

2009-2010

Learning new skills and knowledge takes work on the part of the learner.  As a teacher, I will be assigning in-class assignments and homework assignments, as well as other tasks.  I am encouraging personal study time to enhance the material studied in class.  Grades reflect both the quantity and quality of assignments completed, which will indicate student learning. In English I CP a student’s grade will be determined the following way:

  1. Major Assignments (X2)
  2. Minor Writing Assignment (X1)
  3. Homework (X1)
  4. Class work  (X1)
  5. Quizzes (X1)
  6. Tests (X2)
  7. Projects (X2)

Please remember that when students are absent or do not pay attention in class that it is easy to get behind.  Students are encouraged to watch attendance and to remain on task during class.  I realize that there are many absences that cannot be avoided.  Please know that students are advised to visit the before and after school tutoring center on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in room 202.  Before school times are 7:30-8:30 am and after school times are 3:40- 4:30 pm.  Students will report to room 202 at 3:40, sign in, take out materials and let us know their level of need. Students must stay on task the entire time.

EXAMINATIONS

Students enrolled in Algebra 1, Math for Technologies 2, English I, Physical Science, and US History will take a mid-course exam that will count 10% of first term grade.  At the end of the course, they will take a state administered exam that counts 20% of their OVERALL grade.  Students will not be eligible to exempt the state exam.

English II CP classes will take final exam (20%)at the end of the first semester.

English II CP

First quarter grades are worth 40%.

Second Quarter grades are worth 40%

Final Exam is worth 20%

Mrs. Diggs’ Guidelines

  1. You are expected to have the necessary materials with you in class everyday.  These materials include the textbook, notebook (3-5 subject notebook or a 3-ring binder, paper, pens-blue and black only), paper without rough edges and, correction fluid.
  2. Have materials prepared for class before the tardy bell rings.  Sharpen pencils before class starts.  Do not wait until class begins to take care of this matter.  Keep all trash at your seat and throw away as you leave at the end of the period.  This will eliminate any wandering around during the class period.
  3. Please remain in your seat at all times, unless you are otherwise given permission.  Do not get out of your seat and congregate at the door waiting for the bell to ring, especially for those classes before lunch and at the end of the day.
  4. It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed during an absence. This work should be made up as quickly as possible (5 days). If you are present on the day that an assignment is made, you are responsible for having the work when you return to school.

Make an appointment with me to make up assignments.

  1. Please do not scratch out mistakes on graded assignments.  All graded

assignments should be in black or blue ink, or you may type them.

  1. Spelling counts for all assignments.
  2. Neatness counts.
  3. Length requirement counts.
  4.  Check for errors through proofreading before turning work into the teacher.
  5. Do not use abbreviations or slang expressions when writing Standard English.
  6. Use the restroom before class starts.

*Many assignments are oral assignments (Standard Indicator- E-1-6.5).

*Attention Parents of In-Touch: Grades are updated weekly/bi-weekly.  Students have 5 days to make up work after an absence
