TYPES OF ASSESSMENT:

Warm-up
§
Warm-up is done almost
daily.
§
Warm-ups will be
used to determine the understanding of the previous section covered.
§
These will be put
into a warm-up spiral notebook kept in the classroom.
§
These will be
grades at the end of each chapter and will count towards a students
class participation grade.
·
Homework
§
Homework will be
given almost daily.
§
All homework will
receive a grade.
§
Homework grade is
based on what is done in writing with work shown.
§
Homework is
graded in one of two ways:
1. For
completion- The teacher will see that the student has
completed the
assignment for a possible 5 points.
2. For accuracy – The teacher will collect the
student’s
work and grade
for correct answers with possible points
varying from 5 to
30 points.
§
Late homework
will only be accepted one school day late for partial credit. After that time all missing homework will
remain a zero.
§
Homework missed
due to an absence must be made up within 5 school day.

Question and
Answer
§
Each day time is
devoted to answer questions over the previous day’s homework and to work
problems that students had difficulty on or missed. This provides feedback on
the understanding of the previous day’s material.
§
Each day during
the presentation of new material questions are asked of various students as
well as the class as a whole to assess the student’s understanding of the new
material. Students will be asked to work
problems in the practice workbook and answers checked to see if the students
have comprehension of the new concepts.

Quizzes or
Projects
§
Quizzes will be
given several times each chapter over
§
These occur at
approximately once a week or as the chapter progresses.
§
Projects will be
given at various times during the year involving group work.
§
All quizzes
missed because of an absence must be made up within 5 school days (district
policy)
§
1st quarter only- Quizzes below a 70% may be re-taken with the two
grades averaged.
Please schedule a time before or after school for the
re-take.

Tests
§
Tests will be given
over each chapter for a possible 100 points.
§
Partial credit is
given when minor mistakes are made and work is shown.
§
All tests missed
because of an absence must be made up within 5 school days (district policy)
§
1st quarter only- Tests below a 70% may be re-taken with the two
grades averaged.
Please schedule a time before or after school for the
re-take.

Semester Exams
§
Exams will be
given at the end of 1st semester.
§
It will be
cumulative over the chapters covered.
·
End-of-Course Test
for Algebra 1 CP and Honors
§
This test will be
given the middle of May for year courses.
§
It will be
cumulative and cover all the South Carolina Algebra 1 Course Standards.

GRADING OF ASSESSMENTS:

Daily Grades
§
Homework, quizzes
and test grades will be recorded daily in a grade book with different color ink
used for each category for easy identification.
§
Grades are
entered into the school program Integrade on a
regular basis at least once a week to update the student’s grade in the course.
§
Class participation
grades will be figured using the daily warm ups as well as other classroom
activities.

Quarter Grades
§
A point system
will be used for each category of grades- Homework, Quizzes or Projects, and
Tests. It will be determined by the
Points Earned divided by the Points Possible in each category.

The Semester Exam

grade will count 40% of the final year grade.
§
The End-of-
Course Test will count 20% of the final year grade.

Semester and
Final Grades for Math Tech 1
§
Each Quarter will
count 45% of the semester grade.
§
The 1st
and 2nd Semester Exam will count 10% of the semester grade.
