NEWSPAPER PRODUCTIONS
Class Goal: To create a school newspaper that is informative, entertaining, and accurate with as few mistakes as possible.
Methods: 1. Well-written, accurate stories with lots of information & quotes!
2. Variety of story types and topics
3. Strict adherence to deadlines
4. Much, much proofreading
5. Attention to details, especially when doing computer layout
Knight Life Staff:
Editor-in-Chief - responsible for & oversees all aspects of paper
Assistant Editor - second in command
Copy Editor - proofs and corrects stories
Photography Editor - photo assignments, digital downloads & saving
Business Editor - responsible for organizing ad sales and sending bills, etc.
Reporters - everyone
GRADES
1. Four issues of Knight Life to be published this semester
Each one is worth 125 points: 25 pts - Story #1
25 pts - Story #2
25 pts - Columns (Editors only)
20 pts - Story deadline
30 pts - Computer layout/design
2. Ad Sales - 10% of grade for each semester
- Each student is responsible for selling at least 2 ads
- You may only sell one patron ad
- Additional ads sold past 2 will count for extra credit

3. Various, miscellaneous assignments, quizzes, etc.
4. Portfolio - a display of all your semester’s work
5. Exams - 20% of grade, per district policy

Newspaper Class Behavioral Expectations
1. Please remember that this is an academic class receiving academic class credit. I expect correct form, no misspellings, appropriate grammar and adherence to schedules, just as in any other class.
2. Remember that there are other classes in the vicinity – keep your voices down to a normal classroom level.
3. Absolutely no food or drink is permitted in the Publications room.
4. You will be expected to work on Newspaper material during class, not to use this time as a study hall. Always try to help others when needed and ask one of the editors if you don’t know what you should be doing.
5. Remember that all ideas, special projects, etc. are confidential for Newspaper staff members only, until the issue is published.
6. Please clean up your work area. etc. before the bell each day. I cannot guarantee the safety of notes & computer disks left unsecured.
7. Have fun, but remember that
your work will be read & critiqued by everyone at

The Newspaper Productions
class publishes the school newspaper, Knight
Life, each month. There are eight
issues of the paper each school year. The
newspaper staff writes and edits the articles, takes the photographs, and
designs the paper using the Pagemaker publishing
program. The staff also sells
advertising to help pay for the costs of printing the paper. |

Knight Life accepts advertising from businesses and
individuals appropriate for a school publication. There are eight issues per year and they
are distributed on the last Friday of the month that school is in
session. The February issue is the
only exception, as it is usually published around Valentine’s Day. Please contact Mrs. Cimney,
