Lab Safety and Equipment

 

 

Home

  A primary concern in all science courses is lab safety.  All science students in Florence School District One are required to read and sign a lab safety contract.  Students are also required to pass a lab safety test with a minimum score of 80.  This document details district guidelines for lab safety and behavior.  Each student is given a copy of this document at the beginning of each class.  For a copy of the lab safety contract, click on the link below.

Florence School District One Safety Contract

 

 

 

 

 

 **The following equipment will be used during this class.  It is very important for each student to be able to identify each piece of equipment and be knowledgeable of its uses and associated hazards.

 

 

Triple Beam Balance

purpose: to measure the mass of samples

 

 

 

Beaker

purpose: to measure/contain liquid quantities

 

 

 

Brush

purpose: to clean lab materials after use; slender size makes it well suited to clean test tubes

 

 

 

Graduated Cylinders

purpose: to measure liquid volumes precisely

 

 

 

Erlenmeyer Flask

purpose: for mixing liquid solutions

 

 

 

Pipette

purpose: for transferring small quantities of liquids

 

 

 

Scoopula

purpose: for transferring solid materials

 

 

 

Test Tubes and rack

purpose: reaction vessel

 

 

 

Test tube holder

purpose: for safely handling test tubes
