Objectives

  • Apply reading strategies in order to better understand text
  • Write an essay using constructed response rubric
  • Interpret the meaning of idioms encountered in texts
  • Understand and Context Clues in everyday life
  • Carry out independent reading  in poetry for extended periods of time to gain information
  • Produce written communications in a variety of forms
  • Writing in response to literature read and discussed in class
  • Read, listen, analyze, and evaluate a variety of poems
  • Research, write and present a report Animals in India.

Standards:    The following standards will receive emphasis this semester:

  • One- The student will read and comprehend a variety of literary text in print and non-print formats.
  • Two- The student will read and comprehend a variety of informational texts in print and non-print formats.
  • Three- The student will use word analysis and vocabulary strategies to read fluently.
  • Four- The student will create written work that has a clear focus, sufficient detail, coherent organization effective use of voice, and correct use of the conventions of written Standard American English.
