Curriculum Content Standards in Physical Education *

A physically educated person:

Standard 1: demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

Standard 2: applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Standard 3: exhibits a physically active lifestyle.

Standard 4: achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Standard 5: demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.

Standard 6: demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

Standard 7: understands that physical activity provides the opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.


Resources:  SCAHPERD Fitness Test; PE equipment, gym and activity fields.

 

Varied Instructional Strategies:  Teacher lecture, teacher demonstrations, notes and student participation.

 

Student Assessment:  Students will be visually assessed during activities and journal entries….daily grade will be given.  They will also have a mid-term and final exam.

 

Literacy:  The students write daily in their journals.  We give the students a topic and they are to date it, copy it word for word and sit in their assigned floor-spot and complete their journals in five or more complete sentences.

 

Numeracy:   The students will accurately keep score of games and weekly tournaments.  Each Friday the students run a timed mile in which their goal is to improve on his or her time.  Three times during the semester the students are fitness testing.  The scores or numbers reflect each individual’s level of fitness as compared to their peers.  Top scores (numbers) are posted in all events.

The students will begin a unit on tennis.  (Rules of play, court etiquette, serve, volley, and tournament play)

 

April 28-May 9, 2008

 The students will begin a unit on softball.  (Throwing, catching, fielding, base running and knowledge of game rules)

 April 7-25, 2008     (Spring Break Apr. 14-18)

The students will begin a unit on volleyball.  We will begin with playing a lead-up game called the serve game.

The students will begin a unit on Ultimate Frisbee.  (Knowledge of rules, proper throwing catching techniques, tournament)

 Jan. 28- Feb. 2, 2008

Monday-Thursday:  The students will begin fitness testing.  Each day the students will be given a specific test in order for them to evaluate their own individual fitness level as compared to the national standards of fitness of students their on age.

Friday:  The students will begin their mile run and choice day.  We do this every Friday weather permitting.  Boys should work to have their times under 9 minutes and girls under 11.  The times are recorded weekly to show improvement.  After the mile the students are to choose an activity offered to them and participate in an activity. 

 

fitness testing will consist of:  1 mile run, 20 min run/walk, push ups, pull ups, 40 yard dash, long jump, vertical jump, jump rope, shuttle run
