Curriculum Content Standards in Physical Education *

A physically educated person:

Standard 1: The student will demonstrate competence in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities

Standard 2: The student will demonstrate understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performing of physical activities.

Standard 3: The student will participate regularly in physical activity.

Standard 4: The student will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Standard 5: The student will exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical-activity settings.

Standard 6: The student will demonstrate awareness that physical activity provides the opportunity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.

 

Resources:  Fitness Gram, SCAHPERD Fitness Test; PE equipment, gym and activity fields.

 

Varied Instructional Strategies:  Teacher lecture, teacher demonstrations, notes and student participation.

 

Student Assessment:  Students will be visually assessed during activities and journal entries….daily grade will be given.  They will also have a mid-term and final exam.

 

Literacy:  The students write daily in their journals.  We give the students a topic and they are to date it, copy it word for word and sit in their assigned floor-spot and complete their journals in five or more complete sentences.

 

Numeracy:   The students will accurately keep score of games and weekly tournaments.  The students will also calculate their target heart rate zone.  Each Friday the students run a timed mile in which their goal is to improve on his or her time.  Three times during the semester the students are fitness testing.  The scores or numbers reflect each individual’s level of fitness as compared to their peers.  Top scores (numbers) are posted in all events.

*Fridays:  Choice Day.

 

* Weekly:  FITNESSGRAM Practice

 

The students will be participating in the FITNESSGRAM testing in three areas of fitness.

1.  Cardio respiratory (Cardiovascular) Endurance: PACER Test.

2.  Muscular Strength and Endurance: Curl-up Test.

3.  Flexibility: Sit and Reach Test.

The objective of the FITNESSGRAM is to increase parental awareness of children’s fitness levels by developing an easy way for PE teachers to report the results of physical fitness assessments.

Students are compared not to each other, but to health fitness standards.

Materials needed:  one subject spiral ring notebook, pencil no pens, and proper clothing.

 

 

 

Lesson Plans

 

 

 

 

May 10-21, 2010

Students will be able to:
* complete notebook assignments

* participate in fitness related warm up- circuit or run/walk intervals

* participate in softball or tennis

* fitness testing

 

 

 

The students will continue with fitness testing.  The scores will be recorded and the students can see where their level of fitness is.

Fitness test:

·        Shuttle run-agility

·        Jump rope – speed

·        Flexed-arm hang – upper body strength

·        Vertical leap – power

·        Sit-ups – lower body strength

·        40 yd. dash – speed

·        Pacer – endurance

·        Sit and reach - flexibility

 

Softball:  The students will be given the rules and procedures for playing softball.   The students will be put on teams and will begin play.  The teams will then participate in a tournament.

Tennis:  The students will be given the rules and procedures for tennis.   (Rules of play, court etiquette, demonstration and play)

Basketball:  The students will be given the chance to play pick-up games.  Call their on games.
