Florence students. Spaces in many of
these classes are limited, so if you are interested in taking one of the

BUSINESS/MARKETING
EDUCATION

This course is designed to help the
student develop the skills necessary for the highly
technical interaction between accounting and business, to develop an
understanding
of the
steps of the accounting cycle as applied to several different kinds of business
operations, and to develop an understanding of accounting concepts,
principles, and
practices. Use of the computer in simulated activities gives the students
an opportunity
to see
advantages of technology in accounting procedures.
Accounting 2 with Computer Applications CATE
Level: CP Credit: 1 Grade: 11-12
This course expands the student’s
understanding of accounting subsystems and develops
an
understanding of various methods of internal control procedures. The student (Top of Page)
develops competence in using
subsidiary ledgers, in preparing financial statements,
and in
performing end-of-period procedures. The student will demonstrate the use of
accounting principles through the use of computer software and simulated
activities.
Administrative Support Technology CATE
Level: CP Credit: 1 Grade: 11-12

This course is designed to provide
an understanding of the major responsibilities
and tasks
in an administrative or manager trainee position. The objectives of the
course are to develop technical skills, solve business-oriented
problems, manage
general office tasks, and demonstrate effective supervisory,
management, and
human
relations skills.
Networking
Technology 1 and 2
Level: H Credit: 2 Grade: 10-12
Students will learn how to install,
maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot networks
(including wireless & Microsoft
Server networks). Students will also learn cabling
applications that are necessary to support and maintain a network. Hands on
labs
comprise a majority of class time. Upon completion of the program of
study, students
will be
prepared to perform entry-level networking tasks under the supervision of an
experienced network administrator. It is anticipated that students will
continue their
education in a two year or four year college.

Visual
Basic.NET, the next
generation of Visual Basic, is designed to be one of the
most
productive tool for creating .NET applications, including Windows applications,
Web Services,
and Web application.
VB.Net is
designed to facilitate structured interaction, and problem solving research
for students
wanting to pursue a career in computer programming. (Top of Page)
VB.Net course is
a facilitator rather than instructor lecture type course. Each unit
begins with a
title page that lists objectives for each major subdivision, or topic,
within the
unit. Within each topic, conceptual and explanatory information alternates
with hands-on
activities. Units conclude with a summary comprising one paragraph
for each
topic, and an independent practice activity that gives you an opportunity
to practice
the skills you’ve learned. Students enrolling in computer programming
should be
highly functional in both math and computer applications.
Computer Service Technology
CATE

Credit: 2 Grade: 10-11
Students will
learn what a personal computer is, what goes into its construction, how
to take one
apart and put it back together again, and how to reconfigure the operating
system and
the hardware of a personal computer. (At the beginning of the course, each
student
builds their own computer from scratch that they use the rest of the course).
Students will
also learn to troubleshoot many common personal computer problems
(identifying
the source of the problem and correcting it -- whether the problem is
hardware or
software related). Hands-on labs comprise a majority of class time. Upon
completion of
the program of study, students will be prepared to perform entry-level
servicing
tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician. It is anticipated
that students
will continue their education in a two year or four year college.

This course
is an expansion of office computing incorporating the use of desktop
publishing
software or word processing software with desktop capabilities, a
computer
system, and a printer to produce professional-looking documents.

Students are
instructed in the fundamental features of using digital imaging software
in editing
and designing both photos and graphics. Students also learn the use of
technologies
- hardware and software – such as basic computer operations, fi le sharing
across
networks, digital scanning, digital photography, preparation of documents
for output to
various types of high resolution printers and color calibration.
Digital Input Technologies CATE
Level: CP
Credit: 1 Grade: 9-12
This course
is designed to introduce students to new and emerging technologies
that are
impacting the way we input information into computers and other devices.
Students will
learn keyboarding skills in preparation for an introduction to using
speech
recognition software. Personal digital assistants will be introduced as a tool
for personal
and business applications. Students will also have an opportunity to
explore
digital imaging and the various methods of input available inclusion in
documents.
Entrepreneurship CATE (Top
of Page)
Level: CP Credit: 1 Grade: 10-12
This course
is designed to focus on the managerial process, examining the functions
of planning,
organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling as related to the activities
and
responsibilities of an entrepreneur. Instruction in accounting procedures can
be
included.
Leadership development, positive self-image, and attitudinal training are
necessary
components of the curriculum.
Additionally,
data processing concepts and microcomputer training may be included.
A business
plan is developed to orient the student to “small business ownership.”

This course
is designed to explore the concepts and practices of the fashion business
to include an
overview of the fashion industry, the nature of fashion, and career
development.
Functions of product technology, selling, advertising, visual
merchandising,
fashion buying, merchandising, and management will be analyzed.
Integrated Business
Applications 1 CATE
Level: CP
Credit: 1 Grade: 10-12
Prerequisite:
Dig. Input Tech. or Keyboarding
This course
teaches introductory skills and concepts for Word, Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint.
The skills mastered will be those required to prepare for the Microsoft
Certified
Application Specialist Certification available after the second year. Students
will engage
in projects that will require integration of the software suite.

This course
picks up at the stopping place for the Integrated Business Applications 1.
Advanced
concepts use the full office suite of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and
Publisher.
Students will practice the Microsoft Application Specialist applications in
order to
prepare for certification exams, which are optional. Handheld computers are
also utilized
in this course. Students are required to complete numerous integration
activities.
They will also be eligible to take the globally recognized IC3 basic skills
exam.
Introduction to Business and
Marketing

This course
is designed to improve citizenship through a study of the business and
economic
environment. This study will increase knowledge about the American business
system and
its role in our total economic society, focusing on the competent and
efficient
management of personal finances and the wise and skillful use of goods and
services.

This
instructional program emphasizes the competencies necessary for success in
employment,
advancement to the mid-management and management level and/or
further
education in marketing. The management of marketing activities will be
covered,
especially the aspects of planning, decision making, organizing, directing,

provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level
positions in
multimedia and web publishing. Multimedia combines computer-based
text,
graphics, audio and video within an interactive environment. Students will

digital camera, camcorder, scanner, and the related software. Units of study
will include:
Introductory Multimedia, Digital Imaging, Animation, Audio, Video,
and
Multimedia Equipment.

is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed
to design web
pages. Students will develop skills in designing, implementing, and
maintaining a
web site using authoring tolls. Students will learn to design pages using
basic HTML as
well as Microsoft FrontPage. Topics of study include copyright,
publishing a
web site, and advanced design techniques, such as JAVA applets.

Child
Development is the study of human growth and development from conception
through age
six. The care and guidance of young children relative to the physical,
social,
emotional and mental developmental tasks is stressed. Efforts are made
to
incorporate guided observation and participation with young children and their
parents in
order to promote personal confidence in responding to young children.
The
knowledge, skills, attitudes, and understandings gained will prepare students
to
assume
parental roles and/or careers involving the care and nurture of the young.

The physical, social, economic, and
cultural needs of individuals and families from
the
foundation of Consumer and Homemaking 1 course. Instruction focuses on
preparation
for the occupation of homemaking and the management of the dual
roles of the
homemaking and wage earner. Organized instruction and laboratory
experiences
in clothing construction and food preparation emphasize the acquisition
of knowledge
and the development of understandings, attitudes, and skills relevant
to personal,
home, and family life responsibilities. Consumer and Homemaking 2
is a
comprehensive course which builds upon the foundation laid in the Consumer (Top of Page)
and
Homemaking 1 course. Instruction and learning experiences emphasize the
individual as
a family member.
Early Childhood Education 1 CATE

Phase I of
this course is designed to provide students with hands-on opportunities
to actively
explore and observe the world of preschool children. This course provides
an in-depth
study of career paths, developmentally appropriate practices,
curriculum
development, safe and healthy learning environments, collaborative
relationships,
and professional employment skills. Integration of the Family
and Consumer
Sciences student organizations and Family Careers and Community
Leaders of
America (FCCLA) greatly enhances this curriculum.
Early Childhood Education 2 CATE

Early
Childhood Education 2 is an advanced study in working with young children.
Students
apply and build on skills acquired in Early Childhood Education I.
Opportunities
are provided to interact with professionals in the field and experience
is gained
through various school-to-work activities. Integration of the Family
and Consumer
Sciences student organizations and Family Careers and Community
Leaders of
America (FCCLA) greatly enhances this curriculum.
HEALTH SCIENCE
Level: H
Credit: 2 Grade: 12
Prerequisite:
Application and students must provide transportation to and from
McLeod
campus.
This course
is designed for students planning to pursue a health career course of study (Top of Page)
in college or a technical institution. Students will be trained
in basic health care skills
and
introduced to careers in Nursing, Physician Specialties, Medical Technology,
Physical
Therapy, Radiology, Respiratory Therapy and others. The course will be
taught at
McLeod Medical Center daily with an additional 2½ hour lab required twice
a week after
school hours. Only students with a genuine interest in the medical field
should apply.
Each student selected must have teacher recommendation and must go
through an
interview process.
Health Science Technology 1 CATE

Health
Science Technology 1 focuses on therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics,
and support
services. The foundational standards incorporate anatomy, physiology,
medical
terminology, health care systems, health science research, legal and ethical
practices.
Health Science Technology 2
(Certified Nursing Assistant-CNA) CATE

Introduction to Heath Science, Health Science Technology 1, Biology,
and Chemistry
Health
Science Technology 2 focuses on therapeutic, diagnostic, health information,
support services,
and biotechnology research and development pathways of
a health
science cluster career. The course is designed to provide for the development
of
multi-occupational knowledge and skills foundational to a wide variety
of healthcare
professionals. The foundational standards incorporate anatomy
and
physiology, diseases, therapies and care rehabilitation, prevention, systems
theory, legal
standards, ethical and safety practices, advance technical skills, and
information
technology applications. Students will have hands-on experiences (Top of Page)
for expanded knowledge and skills development. Guiding students
to make
connections
from the classroom to the healthcare industry occur through job
shadowing,
clinical rotation, internship, and/or cooperative education.
Gerontology
is an integral component of this Health Science Technology 2 program.
