Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

As part of our study of 8th grade SC History, Team 8 is planning a trip to Charleston, SC on Wednesday, November 18, 2009.  All students on Team 8 will be given the opportunity to go on the trip.  Students with serious behavior problems or with OSS for the first nine weeks will not be allowed to go on this field trip unless they are accompanied by a parent. The total cost is a non-refundable $40.00. This includes:

·        Charles Towne Landing.

Each student will need to bring a bag lunch. There are 100 available seats on two charter busses which will leave Sneed at 7:30 AM and return at 5:00 PM.  Also, in the event of any unforeseen accidents or occurrences; Team 8, Sneed and/or Florence District One will NOT be held accountable or liable.

This trip is optional, and no student will be penalized for not going.  We hope that you will agree that the trip to Charleston will benefit your child’s study of South Carolina, and we urge you to make every effort to let him/her attend.

Please sign the form below granting your child’s permission to go and include a check made out to Sneed Middle School in the amount of $40.00.  The deadline to sign up for the trip is Monday, November 2, 2009.

          1. All assignments should be done on loose– leaf paper that need to be turned in and written in

      pencil.

4. Materials for projects as they are assigned

Grading and Homework Policy:

Daily grades count once:  quizzes, class work, bell work folders, minor projects, and homework grades.  Major projects, tests, and essays will count twice.  Nine weeks test given at the end of the 1st and 3rd nine weeks will count three times.  Semester exams count 20% of the semester grade.

Homework will be assigned daily.  Written homework will be checked for effort, not accuracy.  Students will be given a grade for each completed assignment.

Classroom Procedures:

            1. Show respect for your teacher, classmate, yourself, and your school’s property.

            2. Keep your hand, feet, and unkind words to yourself.

            3. Follow directions.

            4. Come prepared to learn. Bring your pencil, notebook, textbook, pens, paper, homework, positive

attitude, healthy body and mind to class daily.

Consequences for failing to following classroom procedures:

I will review with your child the classroom procedures I expect him/her to follow.  The following is the management plan I will use for students who fail to comply.

1st offense:  Warning!  Student Conference/Minor Disciplinary Action

            2nd offense:  Parent Contact:  Note/Letter/Phone Call/Conference

3rd offense: Time Out or Lunch Detention

            4th offense:  Office Referral

If a student’s behavior warrants it, any of these steps may be skipped, and the student referred directly to the school office.

I am excited about working with you this year and look forward to seeing your child have one of his/her most successful years.  If you have any questions or need to meet with me for any reason, please call the guidance office (673-1199) and arrange a conference.  My planning period will be from 2:30-3:25.
